Amish Lifestyle & Horseshoeing Exhibit- Located in front of Alpine Lodge, Davis.

Bennie Bender of Springs, PA, will demonstrate and explain the art of horseshoeing and answer questions about Amish lifestyle, customs and traditions.   *Friday only

 

Stream Restoration Exhibit-Located in front of Alpine Lodge, Davis

Canaan Valley Institute will have employees on hand to explain stream restoration techniques and offer a hands-on activity. *Friday only

 

Animal Olympics – Located in front of the Alpine Lodge, Davis

Volunteers from the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge will be on hand to showcase and explain traits and characteristics of local habitat, with a fun and fun-to-watch interactive presentation.   Sponsored by the Friends of the 500th National Refuge.  *Friday only     

 

Interactive Improv Sessions- Located in front of Alpine Lodge, Davis.

Broken “H” Traveling Train Exhibit- Located in front of Alpine Lodge, Davis

Impressive traveling train exhibit has three tracks of G-scale trains that are in motion all at the same time.   Knowledgeable “conductor” Dean Hardman will introduce festival visitors to a wealth of locomotive history when visiting the exhibit.  Exhibit located in the grassy area adjacent to Alpine Lodge/Sawmill Restaurant (in the event of inclement weather, this exhibit may be moved to the Davis Community Center).

 

Totem Motive Wood Carving Exhibit – Located in front of Alpine Lodge, Davis

Local artist “Sacco” Carter will demonstrate the fine art of wood carving with live demonstrations.  Exhibit located in the grassy area adjacent to Alpine Lodge/Sawmill Restaurant. 

 

Fred “Powerhouse” Powers – Located in front of Alpine Lodge, Davis

Coal Miner, Storyteller, Author, Teacher, Appalachian- Living History Presentation of the Appalachian Coal Miner.  Fred Powers is a walking repository of West Virginia History.  A former school teacher as well as a miner, he’s a great storyteller and his oral presentation of his life, forbearers and region are only a small reflection of the many untold stories of the coal miner.   www.powerhousepowers.com     

 

Pioneer Games – Located in front of Alpine Lodge, Davis.

Retired educator Sharon Powers will surprise, entertain and educate you with genuine, authentic games once played by pioneer children.  *Friday and Saturday

Live Glass-Blowing Demonstrations – Located in front of Tucker Community Foundation, Davis

Chip Turner from Appalachian Glass in Weston will demonstrate the fine art of glassmaking with live demonstrations.  Exhibit located in front of Tucker Community Foundation/Run for It Office.   *ALSO OPEN SUNDAY 9:00 AM – NOON

Scenic Chairlift Rides – Canaan Valley Resort, Canaan Valley 

View the valley’s brilliant autumn colors from the top of Weiss Knob at 4280’. Enjoy a leisurely scenic chairlift ride to the top of the ski area mountain, where you can view the entire valley and nature’s spectacular artwork.  Terrific photography opportunities. Choose to ride the lift back to the base of the mountain, or hike down via Bald Knob Trail (moderately strenuous, not suggested for small children. Bring snacks and water if hiking). Chairlift Fee: Adult $7; Jr or Sr: $5

Interpretive Fall Foliage Horseback Rides- Mountain Trail Rides, Canaan Valley  

Enjoy the area’s beautiful fall foliage from horseback and bring any questions you may have about our local trees and flowers with you!  Krista White, Seasonal Naturalist at Blackwater Falls State Park, will be our Special Guest  to interpret our beautiful surroundings on special rides leaving at 10am,12 noon, 2pm, and 4 pm.  Identify yourself as a “Leaf Peeper” and receive a 10% discount.  Reservations strongly suggested.  Call 304-866-4652.

Horse Drawn Wagon Rides – Davis 

Enjoy the traditional “fall festival” experience of riding in a horse-drawn wagon.    For information, please call 304-866-4652.

Take a ride through the park on a tractor pulled wagon. Enjoy a campfire and marshmallow roast along the trails. Enjoy the 8th annual Leaf Peeper’s Parade sponsored by the DVFD. Participants include; fire trucks, floats, antique cars, etc. Trophies will be awarded and given out at the DVFD Fire Hall directly after the parade. Line-up is at 6pm, next to the Dollar General. Run For It 2k /5k Tour of Davis-Front Bay of DVFD, Davis

RUN FOR IT is a 2k (1.2M) walk and USATF certified 5k (3.1M) race around the scenic mountain town of Davis, WV. Cash awards support community organizations, projects, nonprofit agencies, educational activities, and charities located within the Foundation’s service area.  Team Photos beforehand. Blackwater Canyon Bike Ride- Purple Fiddle, Thomas

The 10-mile guided ride descends from Thomas to Mill Race Park in Parsons, where riders are treated to a picnic hosted and sponsored by the City of Parsons. Participants will not only enjoy the beauty of the canyon and the Allegheny Highlands Trail, but will also learn about local history and trail development plans. Suitable for mountain or cross bikes. Kids can make a headband to wear while learning about native American  tribes associated with West Virginia, then try constructing a temporary shelter out of brush.  Meet the assistant naturalist in Harold Walters Nature Center of Blackwater Falls State Park. $1.00 craft fee. The Harold Walters Nature Center Open will also be open 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Stop in to visit or see what the naturalist has scheduled.
